Trescal acquires Metrosul

Trescal, the international specialist in calibration services, has announced the acquisition of Metrosul, a leading calibration services provider based in Porto Alegre capital of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil.

This transaction consolidates Trescal’s geographical footprint and technical coverage in Brazil and has been completed with the support of Ardian, its majority shareholder.

Founded in 1995, Metrosul is Inmetro-accredited and has strong skills in dimensional, electricity, temperature, humidity, pressure and mass (scales). With a turnover of around six million reais (1.5 M€), the company employs 55 people and is mostly active in the Automotive, Utilities, and Food & Beverage sectors.

Metrosul founders, Nilo Ardais and Claudio Herman, will remain in their current positions to continue leading the growth of the business in the coming years.

This acquisition will bring Trescal’s network in Brazil to seven accredited calibration laboratories, with over 200 employees. It is the 17th acquisition since Ardian became its majority shareholder in July 2013.

Federico Levenson, General Manager for Spain & Latin America said: “With this acquisition, the Trescal footprint reaches the Brazilian Southern States - a relevant milestone in our South American development. With seven accredited labs spread over the three major Brazilian Regions, 12 accredited mobile labs and dozens of field engineers, delivering accredited services to our customers every day. Trescal has become a referent metrology service provider in Brazil.”

Nilo Ardais, the Metrosul founder said: “We are a best in class, well reputed lab in our Gaucho State. Nevertheless, in these global times we could no longer afford limiting our service delivery to one single state. Trescal is the suitable partner to help us to attain the next steps.”

Mario Cia, Trescal Brazil General Manager said: “Even with the hard times Brazil has come across, we experienced a huge growth in sales during 2016. Metrosul is the ideal platform to pursue our growth into the three Southern States in 2017.”

Trescal embarks on the Vendée Globe 2016 Sailing Race

Trescal, international specialist in calibration services, is doubly involved in the Vendée Globe 2016 Race. Firstly as a sponsor of the skipper Fabrice Amedeo, who will take part, for the first time next Sunday in this unique solo race around the world without assistance. But also, by providing metrological expertise to the technical team of the Imoca Newrest-Matmut.

Trescal, provided to Fabrice Amedeo’s technical team a tension meter calibrated in their laboratory to check the forces exerted on the riggings.

"This tension meter will enable us to better calculate the tension exerted on the maneuvers in static and dynamic conditions. In particular on the halyards (ropes to hoist the sails) and on the stays (ropes to haul or trim the sails) in order to optimize the choice in strength and weight of the riggings. It will also be used to optimize devices as pulleys, reinforcements on the sails, and to better understand the force induced in the structure of the boat where these devices are fixed... all this in order to optimize performance!” enthusiastically stated Yvon Berrehar, technical director of the Imoca 60.

Trescal’s support of the team will continue after the race because, in addition to these measures carried out with the tension meter, the team located in the Trescal calibration laboratory in Rennes will carry out verification and testing of electrical equipment (current, voltage), and of external and submerged temperature sensors.

The collaboration with Fabrice Amedeo will continue after this Vendée Globe race as the group will be accompanying him and his team during his next challenges : La Transat Jacques Vabre in 2017 and La Route du Rhum-Destination Guadeloupe in 2018.

"Very rarely have I come across a project that combines so many ingredients! The professionalism of the team, the technology of the boat, the quality of its skipper and the dream machine that the Vendée Globe represents! Usually to make a decision on such a sponsorship is not an easy thing for an middle size company like ours. But besides his personality, Fabrice is a master of persuasion. He was well versed on the impact this can give to his sponsors. Now all that remains is to wish him the best race possible" says Olivier Delrieu, Trescal CEO.

"In anticipation of taking part in the Vendée Globe,I have set myself an ambitious challenge and in addition a huge desire to share my experiences: I plan to narrate throughout the race with tales of the magic of the seas to a larger audience. I wish for as many people as possible to embark on this adventure with me. I thank Trescal for all their support and trust. And I will see you all when I have looped around the world" concludes Fabrice Amedeo.
