A Master’s degree in Industrial Science fueled his passion for the intricate world of instruments. He honed his technical skills while designing and selling electronic measurement equipment, giving him a taste of the world of precision. Combining his technical education with his hands-on experience, Jan found the perfect blend when he joined Trescal Antwerp.

My story

I came to Trescal through Emino, an employment partner of VDAB, the employment service of Flanders. From the first conversation, it was crystal clear that Trescal and I were on the same page. For me, going to work every day is a thrill. I am in the field that has fascinated me since I was a teenager. My role at Trescal allows me to face new challenges every day and to continue learning.

My day-to-day is incredibly varied, and I have the privilege of working alongside amazing colleagues. We recently moved to a new location, which is very exciting. It took a lot of planning and effort to have as little downtime as possible. I am also busy developing our procedures to offer clients accredited sound calibrations. We currently perform sound calibration traceable to ISO, but not yet under accreditation (BELAC).

Meet Erik, Calibration Technician in Belgium

Erik’s story

Location: Antwerp, Belgium

Role: Calibration Technician

Tenure: 17+ years

I value the flexibility that Trescal offers me and the opportunities to expand my technical knowledge in areas that interest me.

A little bit about…

Erik had worked in various interim positions before joining Trescal. He was seeking a permanent job that wasn’t a long commute and would provide work-life balance so he could pursue his hobbies and attend evening classes. He found an opportunity at Trescal Antwerp, where he accepted a position in the mechanical department specializing in mass calibration.

My story

After spending several years gaining knowledge in the mechanical lab, I decided to specialize in the calibration of masses. In this field, I compare the masses of the customer with even more accurate mass standards using different weighing models, depending on the desired level of accuracy.

The transition from manual weighing to automatic measurement with mass comparators was a welcomed challenge, with the necessary administration and documentation involved. My knowledge of masses and weighing increased exponentially during this period, and I am now quite happy with my expertise.

One of the projects I’m most proud of is training my colleagues in the Wellin laboratory, and as a result, we achieved a successful audit. This experience was incredibly fulfilling.

I value the flexibility that Trescal offers me and the opportunities to expand my technical knowledge in areas that interest me. However, what truly makes my day-to-day work enjoyable are my colleagues. They are always willing to share their vast knowledge and expertise in their respective fields.

There are great people in every single department, and it is a pleasure for me to work with them.

Meet Tom, Calibration Technician II

Tom’s story

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina Laboratory

Role: Calibration Technician II

Tenure: 1 year

The fact that many of my co-workers are also prior service is a nice touch, we all “get it”.

A little bit about…

Tom began his calibration profession in the US Navy. He later joined Trescal in our Charlotte, North Carolina laboratory as a Calibration Technician II after serving for eight years. Recently, he played a significant role in implementing the lab’s new automated primary pressure standard, enabling us to provide high accuracy calibrations and faster turnaround times for all our clients.

My story

I have eight years of calibration experience in the Navy, but I was still determining what I wanted to do career-wise when I left. I’ve always liked mechanics, so I got a job as a mechanic at a truck stop in Wyoming, but I quickly learned that I like mechanics as a hobby and not a career. Then, I saw a job listing with Trescal for a Calibration Technician III in Cornelius, NC, and I thought my Navy calibration experience might pay off. So here we are, one year later.

I enjoy a dynamic work environment. In the Navy, if you were skilled in a particular field or equipment, you were encouraged to continue working in that area. At Trescal, there are opportunities to acquire diverse skills and knowledge.

Working with my colleagues has been a valuable learning experience that has exceeded my expectations. The fact that many of my co-workers are also prior service is a nice touch, we all “get it”. In the service, we “embraced the suck” together. That mentality stays with someone, and I can see it daily here. A long day or significant workload didn’t matter then, and it doesn’t now. The team is in it together.

I am proud of a project I have just completed. I was directly involved in implementing Charlotte’s new automated primary pressure standard, allowing the lab to provide higher accuracy calibrations and decrease turnaround time for all our customers. Additionally, I was able to use the training provided on our company’s new ERP system to provide additional training and assistance to team members and help expedite the launch of this new system in our lab.
